REMINDER TO THOSE WHO RECEIVED WATER SAMPLE BOTTLES The Borough is required by the State to sample the water. We have disseminated bottles throughout the town. If you received such a bottle please make sure that you fill the bottle with tap water and let the Borough know when we can pick it up. The Borough can be fined if we do not return the bottles for testing. _________________________
MUNICIPAL MATTERS INFORMATION TWO NEW ORDINANCES During their meeting on October 13, the Commissioners adopted two ordinances that are mandated by the State of New Jersey.
REFUSE CONTAINERS: Outdoor refuse containers used for commercial purposes (“dumpsters,” for example) must now be covered at all times. The goal is to prevent rainwater that falls into an uncovered container from flowing out and carrying contaminants into the public stormwater system and waterways.
PRIVATE STORMWATER INLETS: Stormwater inlets that are in direct contact with private roads, parking lots and similar surfaces must be retrofitted when such surfaces are repaired or reconstructed. The goal is to prevent solids and floatables (plastic bottles, for example) from flowing into the public stormwater system and waterways.
ILLEGAL ORDINANCE REPEALED To comply with a NJ Supreme Court decision which held that municipal ordinances relating to the registration of sex offenders are unconstitutional, the Commissioners adopted an ordinance to repeal Chapter 181 of the Municipal Code, titled “Sex Offenders.”
FIRST NIGHT The Commissioners have approved a request from the Haddonfield Cultural Events Commission to close Kings Highway from the Hi-Speedline to Haddon Avenue from 4pm on December 31 to 1am on January 1 for the purposes of holding First Night Haddonfield 2010.
They also authorized a moratorium on the enforcement of the overnight parking regulations from midnight on December 31 through 6am on January 1. This action will permit the owners or operators of motor vehicles to park them on public streets during that period of time. ICE & SNOW REMOVAL Some years ago, the Borough and Camden County entered into an agreement under which the Public Works Department provides snow and ice removal services on more than 3.3 miles of County roads. It is much more efficient – and beneficial for motorists – for Haddonfield crews to do this work than for the County to do it. In return, the County provides road salt to Haddonfield.
During their meeting on October 13, the Commissioners authorized the signing of an interlocal agreement with the County to continue this service for the 2009-10 winter season.
TEMPORARY LABOR The Commissioners have authorized the awarding of a bid for temporary labor to Cameo Personnel Systems, of Pennsauken, at various hourly rates. The Borough usually hires temporary labor for leaf collection, snow removal, and other seasonal needs.
TREE REMOVAL The Borough is seeking bids for tree removal services. The request for bids may be downloaded from the Borough’s Web site. Bids are due (in Room 101 of the Borough Hall) by Thursday, October 29 at 10am.
RETIREMENT TRIBUTES A dinner in honor of Susan Lewis, the former Municipal Court administrator who retired recently after more than 30 years of service to the Borough, will be held at he Coastline Restaurant (1240 Brace Road, Cherry Hill) on Wednesday, November 4, beginning at 6pm. The cost is $35. Checks should be made payable to “Retirement Dinner for Sue Lewis” and mailed to Gerry Miller c/o Borough of Haddonfield, PO Box 3005, Haddonfield NJ 08033.
A dinner in honor of Rick Tsonis, the former Chief of Police, will be held on December 2. Details to be advised.
REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: BOND COUNSEL The Commissioners have authorized the advertising of requests for proposals for bond counsel.
The deadline for the receipt of proposals (in Room 101 of the Borough Hall) was 3pm on Wednesday, October 28.
COOPERATIVE PURCHASING From time to time, the Borough takes advantage of a Camden County program that enables municipalities to purchase supplies from vendors that have been awarded bulk contracts by the county. The Borough acquires copy paper, for example, in this way.
During their meeting on October 13, the Commissioners authorized the Borough’s participation in a purchasing arrangement for sodium chloride and de-icing liquid, both of which the Public Works Department uses during the winter season.
WARNING: “X” MIGHT NOT MARK THE SPOT! The Public Works Department recently placed an orange “X” on a number of trees to be taken down because they are dead or dying. In hopes, apparently, that trees in front of their properties would be taken down also, a number of homeowners have placed their own marks on some trees.
Be advised that the Borough will take down only those trees that are on its list. Nice try!
We hope this information is helpful to you.
Sincerely, Deanna Bennett, Borough Clerk |
