MINUTES OF THE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COUNCIL
June 21, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 9:15 a.m. Those in attendance were Dory Mann, Vilma Ferzola, Peg Gimigliano, Dick Gimigliano, John Thomas, Tony Nocella, Jo Pecosrelli, Dick Eastwick and MaryAnn Bigelow.
The “Start of Summer Picnic” picnic was discussed. It was announced that 61 seniors attended the picnic. The food and weather were wonderful. There was a special treat with a group of Children Cello players (ages 4 through 11). Everyone was delighted with the music. Dory announced that she received many calls the next day to say how much people enjoyed this special addition to our Picnic.
The following announcements were made:
1. The Presbyterian Church will have two picnics, one in July and one in August.
2. Ed Poynton is home from the hospital and doing well.
3. Dick Eastwick will be assuming responsibility for the AARP Drivers Workshop which is held twice a year. He will get together with Ed in relation to this workshop.
Dick Gimigliano stated that the 65 Club is doing well with increased membership. He stated that the golf program is going well and the bowling program will be continued. Additionally, they have some very informative programs. He will pass on some of that information to Josephine for our use. MaryAnn Bigelow will have a training session for caregivers at MKH on July 13th.
Dick Eastwick will keep in close contact with the High School in reference to the Annual Party they sponsor for our senior citizens.
Dory thanked Josephine for the great program we had on Friday from CVS. The Minute Care representative gave a very informative session on what our seniors are offered. The people attending loved the program. Josephine stated that we will continue to have healthy food lunch the last Friday of each month. She stated she will get a date for the traveling Dollar Store to visit since it was well received and well attended. In the Fall we will start having both informative programs as well as entertainment.
Dory brought up the subject of much needed wood chips for the side closest to Acme for safe walking for seniors since it is uneven with twigs, rocks and roots. Dick Eastwick suggested that we as a committee write a memo and all sign it to make this request. This will improve access to our picnics and make it safe. Dory also stated that we now have automatic paper towel dispensers in both bathrooms and this is a great savings on our yearly usage of paper.
Dory thanked everyone for helping with the Picnic.
It was announced that there is not meeting in July and the next meeting is August 16th.
Respectfully submitted,
Dory Mann, Director
