Auxiliary Police

Our Mission
Auxiliary Swearing In
Haddonfield Auxiliary Police Officers are trained, non-paid volunteers, whose mission is to augment the Haddonfield Police Department. Their ranks include moms and dads, business owners and executives, and other Borough residents who are committed to making a safer community. In 2007 the Auxiliary Police were honored with the Alfred E. Driscoll Award for outstanding community service. Each year Auxiliary Officers provide almost 1,000 hours of volunteer service. They function as court bailiffs, and direct traffic at town events such as Fire Prevention Night and the Fall Festival. Members also provide crowd control at high school football and basketball games, numerous parades and 1st Night Celebration. Auxiliary Officers also carry out uniformed, foot and bicycle patrol in the business district during Candle Light Shopping; summer-time Friday night concerts; and furnish security for the summer Craft Fair. Auxiliary Officers are trained to respond to local emergencies, natural disasters and assist the Camden County Fire Police.

Meetings Open to the Public
Auxiliary members meet on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30PM in the Haddonfield Court Room. All Borough residents are invited to attend.

Training
In addition to mandated training, various training seminars are conducted by qualified members of the Haddonfield Police Department. Some officers take optional classes at the Camden County Police Academy. All officers are instructed in basic law enforcement protocol, radio communications, police vehicle operations, self defense, and baton and pepper spray tactics. Officers also remain current with their first-aid and CPR certifications.

Membership
Members are expected to provide eight combined hours of service/training per month. In order to become an Auxiliary Officer you must be 18 years of age, have graduated high-school, be physically able to perform the duties of an Auxiliary Police Officer, and pass a background check. The Chief of Police has final say in appointing Auxiliary Officers. If you are interested in becoming an Auxiliary Police Officer, talk to any of our members, visit us at one of our meetings, or ask to speak with the Police Department Laison at (856) 429-4700 extension 250.
