April 11, 2013 MUNICIPAL MATTERS

BOROUGH BUDGET BRIEFING APRIL 17
Commissioner Kasko will host a community budget briefing on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in Borough Hall to review the 2013 borough budget that has been introduced.  The agenda includes a presentation, line-by-line review of municipal spending and a question-and-answer session.  All interested residents are invited to attend.

VEGETATIVE WASTE PICK-UP SCHEDULE:
Starting April 1st vegetative waste pick-up will once again be weekly.

Spring Clean-up begins April 1st through April 26th.  Leaves may be piled between the curb and the sidewalk without containers.  The chipper will run the 1st and 3rd week and the leaf machine will run the 2nd and 4th week of the month.

COMMITTEE TO FORM TO STUDY WATER AND SEWER UTILITY  
The Commissioners are looking for interested individuals who would like to serve on a committee to review the Water and Sewer Utility, including sale, privatization, shared services and other options.   Anyone interested in volunteering to serve should visit the borough’s Web at http://www.haddonfieldnj.org/borough_boards.php  to apply.

BID AUTHORIZATIONS
The following bids were authorized for receipt by the Borough:

  • Pot Hole Repair Services to be received on or before Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Room 103 of the Haddonfield Borough Hall;
  • 2013 Road Program – Reconstruction of Various Roads –  to be received on or before Thursday, April 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Room 103 of the Haddonfield Borough Hall;
  • 2013 Utility Program – Replacement of Utilities on Various Roads – to be received on or before Thursday, April 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Room 103 of the Haddonfield Borough Hall.

BID AWARD
The following bid was awarded by the Borough:

  • 2013 Road Reconstruction of Cedar Avenue, Farwood Road and Longwood Drive for the Borough of Haddonfield to Landberg Construction of Mays Landing.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL 
The following request for proposal was authorized for receipt by the Borough:

  • General Banking Services for the Borough of Haddonfield to be received on or before Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 101 of the Haddonfield Borough Hall.

TAVISTOCK FIRE INSPECTION SERVICES
The Commissioners accepted a resolution authorizing the Borough to provide fire inspection services to the Borough of Tavistock.

SURPLUS PROPERTY SALE
The Commissioners authorized the transfer of the title of a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria that is no longer in use by the Haddonfield Police Department to the Camden County Fire Police at the cost of $1.00.

HADDONFIELD SOCCER CLUB FUNDING 
The Board of Commissioners authorized their support of the Haddonfield Soccer Club and their desire to seek County Open Space Funds to improve the Crows Woods athletic fields.

WATER DEPARTMENT FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING PROGRAM
During the month of April the Haddonfield Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants between 9:00 am. and 3:30 pm. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays. The following is the schedule and affected areas:

April 16, 17, 18, 19 The Area North of Kings Highway, East of the Patco High Speedline
April 23, 24, 25, 26 The Area South of Kings Highway, East of the Patco High Speedline

If you notice your water is discolored, leave a cold-water spigot running until its clear.  Avoid doing laundry until you’re sure the water is clear. For more information, contact the Haddonfield Water Department Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at 856-429-0183.

ORDINANCE TO PRESERVE CAP BANK 
The Commissioners authorized an ordinance that, in 2013 budget year, would increase the final budget appropriations to 3.5%, amounting to $150,313.31. Any amount authorized hereinabove that is not appropriated as part of the final budget would be retained as an exception to final appropriation in either of the next two succeeding years.

WATER AND SEWER RATES
The Commissioners authorized an ordinance that would fix and establish the rate for Borough water to be $5.00 per thousand gallons; and for sewer service to be $2.40 per thousand gallons of water.

HMHS SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS PRESENTATION TO THE MAYOR 
In honor of her years of service to our community, This HMHS Senior Class presented made Mayor Tish Colombi an honorary member of the Class of 2013 and presented her with a diploma stating the same.

HADDONFIELD EARTH DAY 2013 – APRIL 27
Celebrate Haddonfield’s Natural Environmental and History with “All Rhoads Lead to Crows Woods, a Tricentennial Earth Day Celebration” from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Crows Woods Pavilion. This event is sponsored by the Environmental Commission, Sustainable Haddonfield, Historical Society, Shade Tree Commission and Crows Woods Gardeners.  For more information contact sustainablehaddonfield@gmail.com; call Julie at 856-795-2272. FIRST FRIDAYS 2013 
First Fridays will commence for 2013 Dowtown starting May 3 from 5-9 p.m. The Partnership for Haddonfield to continue to sponsor “First Friday” events in 2013 on June 7, July 5, August 2, and September 6 of 2013 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Kings Highway. The events will feature artists, vendors and entertainment for all ages. Come out and enjoy the warm-weather fun!

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK 
The Commissioners proclaimed April 14 – 20, 2013 as National Library Week and encourage residents to visit the library to take advantage of its wonderful library resources. This proclamation was presented to Susan Briant, Haddonfield Public Library Director, and members of the Friends of the Library.

ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTH
The Commissioners join the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc., (NCADD) and The New Jersey Division of Alcohol Beverage Control to proclaim April 2013 as Alcohol Awareness Month and encourage citizens, parents, government agencies public and private institutions, businesses, hospitals, and schools in Haddonfield to support efforts that will encourage recovery throughout our community. This proclamation was presented to Commissioner Borden, as he is a member of Municipal Alliance.

ARBOR DAY
The Commissioners proclaimed that Friday, April 26, 2013 is Arbor Day and encourage residents to celebrate Arbor Day by supporting efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, and to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations.

EARTH DAY
The Commissioners proclaimed April 22, 2013 to be Earth Day and urge all citizens to be mindful of local, state and national laws which protect our environment, and to join in efforts to preserve the beauty and wonder of the lands, skies and water of the Earth in all its diversity.

LIONS CLUB OF HADDONFIELD SIGHT AWARENESS MONTH 
The Commissioners asked residents to them us in proclaiming April 2013 as Lions Club of Haddonfield Sight Awareness Month. This proclamation was presented to Bonnie S. Legnola, Sight Chairman, Lions Club of America.

NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH 
The Commissioners join our country in recognizing April 2013 as National Donate Life Month and ask residents raise their awareness and participate in the honor of a life giving decision. This proclamation was presented to Commissioner Borden, who initiated the National Donate Life Month proclamation here in Haddonfield.
