Leaf Pickup
Leaves no longer will be picked up in plastic bags. Leaves can be placed in your green cans or biodegradable bags and will be picked up the first and third weeks of the month, January through March, by the vegetative waste truck.

Grove Street Update
The sewer extension project began Jan. 10 with work along Park Boulevard in Cherry Hill. The first task to be completed includes making a connection to a 66-inch interceptor pipe that will allow flows from Haddonfield to be redirected to the CCMUA interceptor. Since the 66-inch interceptor conveys a significant volume, temporary shutdown was not an option, which resulted in a complex installation.

The existing roadway was cut and excavation took place to uncover the interceptor, which is about 15 feet below the surface of the road. The complete shutdown of Park Boulevard was necessary. A “trench box” was utilized to hold the sides of the excavation open and allow safe conditions for workers.

To complete the connection, the contractor, CRJ Construction installed a tapping saddle around the 66-inch pipe, which allowed the connection of a drilling tool and drilling into the interceptor pipe via a fluid-tight connection. Once the connection to the CCMUA’s interceptor pipe is complete, the contractor will install the new sanitary sewer main along Grove Street. It is this new sanitary sewer pipe that will collect sanitary flows from Haddonfield residents.
Further updates will continue in the future.

Meter Readings
An ordinance that removes the cost difference between meter installations was approved by commissioners on first reading. All meters are now read remotely.

CCMUA Payments
Commissioners approved the payment of $6,300 to pay the sewer bills for qualified low-income senior citizens. Seniors are encouraged to visit the borough’s Web site at www.haddonfieldnj.org for more information about this program.

Zoning Board Appointment
Borough commissioners welcomed Brian Mulholland to the Zoning Board, and thank George Haitsch for his service to the community.

CDBG Grant
Commissioners authorized application for a Community Development Block Grant of $23,010. The money would be used to construct handicapped curb cuts on Tanner Street.

Water-Sewer Rate Hikes
Water and sewer rate hikes were tabled by commissioners. The public hearing on the matter will be held at the commissioners’ meeting on Feb. 22. Earlier, commissioners approved on first reading the ordinance that raises water rates from $4.70 per thousand gallons to $4.80, and sewer rates from $2.25 per thousand gallons to $2.30. The borough is facing significant infrastructure updates and is raising rates slowly and incrementally to assist in paying for the repairs.

Centre St. Grant
The borough has received a $200,000 grant from the Department of Transportation. The funds will be used for road repairs from East Cottage to Reillywood.
