Yard Sale Time

As the yard sale “season” approaches, commissioners remind residents who plan to hold private sales of the need to observe the regulations for yard and garage sales. They include:

1. Residents are permitted to hold one sale in any six-month period.
2. A permit must be obtained prior to the sale. The cost is $2 and it can be obtained at borough hall, Room 101. The penalty for not obtaining a permit is $10.
3. Signs may be placed only on the property where the sale is taking place. Signs may not be placed on poles or trees or in the ground in the public right-of-way.

Rabies Clinic

The borough will conduct a free rabies clinic for cats and dogs owned by Haddonfield residents on Saturday, April 30th from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot behind borough hall.

Arbor Day and Earth Day

Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for the annual Arbor Day ceremony on April 29 at Tatem School. Earth Day celebrations will take place at Crows Woods on April 30.

Spring Clean-Out

From April 4 to April 29, the borough is relaxing the rules that normally apply to the kinds and quantities of material residents may put out for collection as trash. Residents may put out any quantity of regular trash and yard waste.

Restrictions still apply to large and heavy items, construction debris, household hazardous waste, and trees and stumps.

During the month of April, the chipper will run the first and third weeks of the month on your trash day. Also during April, the leaf machine will run the second and fourth weeks of the month on your trash day. Beginning April 4, the vegetative waste truck will run daily on your trash day through the end of October (Oct. 27). Plastic bags are not accepted for vegetative waste. Only brown biodegradable bags will be taken, along with your green vegetative waste cans or other designated vegetative waste cans.

Vegetative yard waste in plastic bags will not be picked up.

If in doubt, call 429-0183 before putting questionable items out for pick-up.

Spring Community Clean-Up

The borough participates in a statewide program aimed at making New Jersey a litter-free state. One aspect of Haddonfield’s Clean Communities program is Spring Clean-Up Day. This year, it is Saturday, April 30.

Community organizations, schools, churches, neighborhood groups, families and individuals are invited to help make Haddonfield litter-free by picking up trash and recyclable items from parks, parking lots, walkways, sidewalks and other public places to which they have been assigned.

To arrange an assigned “spot,” contact Paul Heller, the borough’s Clean Communities Officer, via email at cleancommunities@haddonfield-nj.gov or via phone at 429-4700, ext. 315.

Trash bags will be provided, although participants should provide their own gloves, rakes, etc., as required.

Emergency Repair Bids

Commissioners authorized advertising for sealed bids for emergency sewer main repairs. Bids are due on or before Thursday, April 14 at 10 a.m. in Room 102 of borough hall.

Commissioners also authorized advertising for sealed bids for emergency water main repairs. Bids are due on or before Thursday, April 14 at 10:15 a.m. in Room 102 of borough hall.

In addition, commissioners authorized advertising for sealed bids for water and sewer lateral work. Bids are due on or before April 14 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 102 of borough hall.

Landscaping Services

Commissioners rejected two bids for landscaping services as the bids exceeded the budgeted amount for the work.

First Friday

Commissioners gave their authorization to hold First Friday events on the following days: April 1, May 6, June 3, July 1, Aug. 5, Sept. 2, Oct. 7 and Nov. 4. The events will take place on Kings Highway from 5-9 p.m. Artists under contract with the Partnership for Haddonfield will set up easels along Kings Highway, stationary and strolling entertainment is allowed and an assortment of signage will be permitted at locations determined by the Partnership.

Women’s History Month

Mayor Tish Colombi continued the tradition of honoring local women in the borough for their service to the community in recognition of Women’s History Month. This is the 10th year that approximately 50 women have been honored. About 500 women have been recognized over the past 10 years.

Christ the King Regional School’s King’s Run on Nov. 19

Gloucester County’s 42nd Jonas Cattel Run on Oct. 23

The Y’s Men Club’s Haddonfield Road Race on Nov. 12

Haddonfield Garden Club’s Herb Sale on May 7

The Friends of the Library’s Book Sale Sept. 24-25.

The Little League’s Opening Day Parade on March 26

The Haddonfield Running Company’s Adrenaline 5k on March 19

Municipal Alliance Grant

Commissioners authorized signing of a county interlocal service agreement for a Municipal Alliance grant. The grant is in conjunction with the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse for the Year 2011.

Block Grant Amended

Commissioners authorized amending the application of the Community Block Grant since it was determined it was necessary to change the activity for which the grant would apply. The borough is now seeking the grant to fund construction of handicapped curb cuts at various crosswalks near schools and throughout the borough.

New Info Center Hours

As of April 1, the Haddonfield Information Center will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  It may be open at other times by appointment only.  Additionally, the Information Center will be closed from July 17 through Aug. 31 and Dec. 25 through Jan. 31.
