Update to the Historic District Ordinance
Note Date Correction—April 9th
Haddonfield’s Historic District Ordinance was the second district established in the State of New Jersey. The past 40 years there has been little change to the ordinance. Over the past six months the ordinance has been under review. Based on significant input from the Historic Preservation Commission, Planning Board, Zoning Board, and the public, a final version of the amended ordinance has been prepared. Prior to introduction by the Commissioners, there will be a public meeting held on April 9th at 7:00 pm in the auditorium of Borough Hall. The consultants from Carter van Dyke Associates will be there to explain the changes to the ordinance and answer questions.
Reporting Potholes
The weather this year has been especially hard on the roadways, and there will be a larger than normal number of potholes because of the conditions. The Borough of Haddonfield is beginning to accumulate a list so that we may go out to bid for filling these potholes as soon as weather permits. Please report potholes on the website by filling out the form here:http://www.haddonfieldnj.org/borough_dept_pw.php#pothole.

The Historic Preservation Commission Workshop
The Historic Preservation Commission will host Ms. Andrea Tingey from the NJ State Historic Preservation Office for “Historic Preservation 101”, a historic preservation workshop on Saturday, March 22 from 9 a.m.-noon. The workshop will be held in the 2nd floor Borough Hall auditorium. Ms. Tingey will cover basic preservation history and current preservation practices with an emphasis on how they relate to Haddonfield’s historic preservation goals. A short Q&A will follow the presentation. Please join us and learn more about historic preservation in Haddonfield. Women’s History Month
The borough recognizes all the women of the Haddonfield community, both past and present, including Elizabeth Haddon who established the Borough of Haddonfield in 1713 by declaring March as Haddonfield Women’s History Month. Haddonfield requests that all residents join them in thanking all the women in Haddonfield for their contributions to their families and to this community.
Emergency Temporary Appropriations
The Board of Commissioners authorized emergency temporary appropriations in order for daily operations to proceed until the permanent 2014 budget has been adopted. The total emergency temporary resolutions adopted in the year 2014, including this resolution, totals $4,618,812.18 for the current fund. The emergency temporary appropriations include:
$ 3,815,312.18 – Current Fund
$ 803,500 – Water & Sewer Fund
Bid Requests
Bid requests have been issued for the following:
- Emergency Sewer Main Repairs due on or before Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 10 a.m. in room 103 of the Haddonfield Borough Hall;
- Emergency Water Main Repairs due on or before Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. in Room 103 of the Haddonfield Borough Hall;
- Water and Sewer Lateral Work due on or before Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in Room 103 of the Haddonfield Borough Hall.
Spring Events
The borough has approved permits for the following events:
- Tatem Elementary School’s Fair May 26
- Haddonfield Celebrations Assoc.’s Fireworks Display July 3,and Independence Day Parade July 4;
- Irish Pub Children’s Foundation’s 27th Annual Irish Pub Tour de Shore July 27.
First Thursdays
First Fridays are now a thing of the past, but First Thursdays are here to stay. Each First Thursday will have its own theme, starting on June 5 from 5 – 8 p.m. with One Stop Wedding Shop. Retailers, bakeries, flower shops and any vendor with a gift to will have merchandise for display wedding items in front of their store. Additional First Thursdays are July 3, August 7 and September 4 – themes to be announced!
The downtown will also be showing their appreciation to shoppers on First Thursday by offering rewards. All receipts reflecting purchases made between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on First Thursday, June 5 will receive a 10% rebate on the total amount of money spent – offered by way of a Haddonfield Gift Certificate at the Information Center. All receipts must be redeemed within one week of the event, June 12.
Additional First Thursdays are July 3, August 7 and September 4 – themes to be announced!
Bid Awards
The Commissioners awarded the following bids:
- Asphalt Street Patching and Miscellaneous Concrete Replacement to Curb Con; and
- Grove Street Utility Replacement to OTS of New Jersey, LLC
Green/Sustainable Element for the Master Plan
The Commissioners authorized an agreement with Clarke Caton and Hintz to create a Green/Sustainable Element for the Master Plan.
Bid Authorization – Sale of Borough Water and Wastewater Utility Systems
The Commissioners have authorized the Borough to obtain bids for the sale of the Borough’s Water and Waste Water Systems.
Haddonfield’s Rules for Dog Walking
The Commissioners want to remind residents of the rules regarding walking your dogs and disposing property of their waste:
- All dogs must be on a leash when being walked on public streets; no pet is permitted to roam un-leashed in Haddonfield
- Pet owners or anyone who takes their pet for walks must properly dispose of their pet’s waste by picking it up, wrapping it and either placing it in the trash or flushing it unwrapped down the toilet.

Residents are reminded to sign up to receive important e-mail notices, reminders and alerts from the Borough. This system can be used to alert those who are registered to impending deadlines (for the payment of taxes, pet license fee, etc.), and to public safety situations.
