October 15, 2010 Municipal Matters
The Planning Board will hold a special meeting on October 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Borough Hall auditorium to discuss the Bancroft redevelopment plan. A copy of the plan is available, along with other pertinent documents, on the borough’s Web site. Hard copies are available at the Administration Office in Borough Hall.
It is anticipated that additional information from planning consultants Heyer, Gruel and Associates, and financial analysis specialists Parente Beard will be available on October 18.
It is not anticipated that the Planning Board will take action at the October 25 meeting. Action may occur in November. Due to public interest, the Planning Board has moved its regularly scheduled meeting to November 10 so as to not conflict with school vacation the week before.
The Commissioners have released an information letter on the redevelopment plan. If you have not received yours, you can pick up a copy at Borough Hall, the Library or on the borough’s Website.
Leaf Pickup Has Changed
This fall, leaves will not be picked up until the start of November. Please do not put your leaves out for collection until November 1. Leaf pickup will occur on the same day as your trash collection. Please be patient if your leaves are not collected on the regularly scheduled trash day. The borough will do its best to collect leaves as close as possible to your trash day, but they can get delayed as leaves pile up.
Also, due to leaf collection, the chipper will not be in operation in the borough from November 1 through mid-December.
Taxes are Due November 1
The borough reminds residents that taxes are due on November 1.
Borough Hall Closing Dates
Borough Hall will be closed on November 2 for Election Day and November 11 for Veterans Day. The borough would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of their right to vote on Election Day. If you have questions about polling locations, please call the Adminstration Office or look under the “Borough Clerk” section of the borough’s Web site.
Halloween Schedule
The borough’s annual Halloween Parade will be held on Saturday, October 30. Lineup begins at 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, and the parade down Kings Highway will begin at 6:30 p.m. This year, Trick or Treating will be held on Sunday, October 31 from 2 to 6 p.m.
Loading Zone Near High School
Commissioners passed an ordinance on second reading at their October 12 meeting that allows for a loading zone across the street the high school. The zone will begin near the intersection of Kings Highway East and Moorehouse Lane and run along the southern curbline in a westerly direction for 25 feet.
Pet License Fees Changed
Commissioners have introduced an ordinance that would raise the pet license fees in order to help offset the borough’s animal control officer and all fees associated with the job. If passed, the dog license fee will be raised to the state maximum of $21. Licenses for dogs that are not spayed or neutered would cost $24. The fee for non-neutered cats will increase to $24, and the fee for neutered cats will be $17.
Bid Advertisements, Leaf Disposal
At their October 12 meeting, Commissioners passed a Resolution to authorize the Borough Clerk to advertise for sealed bids for tree removal services, and passed a separate Resolution to authorize the Borough Clerk to advertise for sealed bids for Lane of Acres Drainage. Bids for both projects are due by Tuesday, October 26 at 10:15 a.m.
Commissioners approved a Resolution to authorize the Public Works Department to use Gloucester Township Municipal Utilities Authority in Glendora for the purpose of disposing leaves for composting at the rate of $3 per cubic yard, as per their proposal.
Recreation Council Appointment
Commissioners approved the appointment of David Ragone to the Recreation Council. His term will expire in May 2011.
Proclamations
Commissioners gave two Proclamations at their October 12 meeting. The first was made for Crop Walk Day, which will be Sunday, October 24. The second Proclamation recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Commissioners urge all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities and programs to work toward improving victim safety and holding perpetrators of domestic abuse accountable for their actions against individual victims and our society as a whole.
First Night
Commissioners authorized the holding of First Night Haddonfield 2010, to be held on Friday, December 31, 2010 from 6 p.m. to midnight, downtown on Kings Highway and adjacent areas. During the First?€ˆNight event, various food purveyors in the commercial district are given permission to display and sell food on the sidewalks in front of their stores or shops. Food purveyors whose shops or stores are not on Kings Highway may sell food as determined by the First Night Steering Committee.
