Special Planning Board Meeting
A special Planning Board meeting to consider the Bancroft Redevelopment Plan has been scheduled for Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at borough hall. Previously, a meeting had been set for late September. Borough officials moved that meeting to Oct. 25 to give the financial analyst who recently was brought on board, ParenteBeard, time to provide further input. Also, there is additional information the borough’s planners at Heyer Gruel have been asked to gather that will be available to the Planning Board on Oct. 25.

Commissioners also extended the Planning Board Review Period by 20 days. Recommendations and comments regarding the Bancroft Redevelopment Plan from the Planning Board to commissioners now are due on Nov. 12.

The borough’s final redevelopment plan is available on the borough’s Web site – www.haddonfieldnj.org. Space is available on the site for comments.

Leaf Collection Schedule Changed
Due to budget changes, leaf collection will begin on Nov. 1 this year.
Please do not put your leaves out for collection prior to that date. Residents might see leaf collection equipment on the streets of Haddonfield the last two weeks of October. This is only to test the equipment. No leaves will be collected until Nov. 1.

Also, due to leaf collection, the chipper will not be in operation in the borough from Nov. 1 through mid-December.

Shredding Day October 9
A Shredding Day has been set for Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Take your personal, confidential papers, documents with bank account, Social Security, credit card and drivers license numbers and more to One Centennial Square (Archer & Greiner) off Euclid Avenue. Paper clips, staples and rubber bands are OK. Haddonfield residents, retailers and professionals only (ID may be required).

Borough Hall, the library and the Information Center all will be closed on Oct. 11 in observance of Columbus Day. Trash pickup will not be affected and will continue as normal.

Woodland Avenue Project
Commissioners have awarded a contract for the second phase of the Woodland Avenue project, which includes concrete work and road reconstruction.
Commissioners approved the low bid of Paramount Enterprises of Cherry Hill, which submitted a base bid of $517,000.

Temporary Labor Services
Commissioners have authorized the advertisement of sealed bids for temporary labor services. These services primarily are used for leaf collection. Bids are due on or before Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. in Room 122 of borough hall.

Loading Zone Near High School
Commissioners have introduced an ordinance that would allow for a loading zone across the street from the high school. The zone would begin near the intersection of Kings Highway East and Moorehouse Lane and run along the southern curbline in a westerly direction for 25 feet.
A public hearing on the proposed ordinance will be held at the commissioners’ Oct. 12 meeting at 7:30 p.m. at borough hall.

Happy Birthday, Haddy!
October marks the 152nd anniversary of the excavation of the nearly-complete skeleton of what became known as Hadrosaurus foulkii.

  • In 1994, the discovery site was declared a national historic landmark.
  • In 2003, the HATCH Committee dedicated a sculpture of this famous prehistoric fossil.
  • Commissioners have approved a proclamation that asks all residents to join them in wishing Haddy a happy 152nd birthday.
