Tricentennial Salute
In special reconition of the 300th Anniversary of the completion of Elizabeth Haddon Estaugh’s home, and in celebration with the community, Mayor Jeffrey Kasko and Commissioners John Moscatelli and Neal Rochford, along with NJ Senator James Beach, NJ Assembly Majority Lead Louis Greenwald, and Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt and Master of Ceremonies Tish Colombi invite you to attend a Tricentennial Salute on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at the Kings Court Gazebo, Haddonfield, NJ.  The event features music by the Haddonfield Community Philharmonic and Marching Band Society (from 11:00 a.m.), awards for student achievement, presentation of elementary school time capsules, and recognition of Tricentennial volunteers.

 

Walk to School Day 
With school newly in session, The Commissioners have declared Wednesday, October 9, 2013 “Walk to School Day” for Haddonfield, NJ, and encourage everyone to make this very walkable borough safer for walkers throughout the Haddonfield community. Parents should be aware that driving children to school who could otherwise safely walk every day causes congestion and air pollution – and walking builds exercise into their daily routine. Haddonfield is also asking that on “Walk to School Day,” and every other day, residents consider the safety of pedestrians.

Happy 155th Birthday, Haddy!
October 2013 marks the 155th year of the excavation of the nearly-complete skeleton of what has become known as Hadrosaurus foulkii, or “Haddy”. Haddy was first discovered by a team of diggers led by Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences in October 1858. The Commissioners have deemed October 2013 as the appropriate anniversary for Haddy to be celebrated by the present and future generations of dinosaur admirers in the Borough of Haddonfield. The Commissioners are asking that all Haddonfield residents join in wishing “Haddy” a happy 155thbirthday.

Haddonfield Shreds 
Bring your outdated personal and confidential papers to the Archer & Greiner parking lot – Euclid Avenue entrance. On Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m.-noon for our FREE bi-annual paper shredding event. Documents containing bank account information, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and any other personal information should be shredded. Paper clips and rubber-banded documents are acceptable as well.

Bicycle Auction
The Haddonfield Police Department will conduct a Bicycle Auction, auctioning off a selection of bicycles to the highest bidder on Saturday, October 5th at 10a.m. at the Borough’s Public Works Facilities, 555 Centre Street. Please feel free to come between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. to preview the selection.

Approved Appointments 
The Commissioners have approved the following appointments:

  • Saba Aftab a to the Sustainable Haddonfield Commission effective September  24, 2013;
  • Joseph C. Lynch to the District Management Corporation, Alt. II which expires May 31, 2014;
  • Joshua Drew to the Zoning Board of Adjustment which expires May 31, 2014;
  • Brian Mulholland to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Alt. I which expires May 31, 2014;
  • Jeff Arnold to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Alt. II which expires May 31, 2014;
  • Christin Deacon to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Alt. III which expires May 31, 2014;
Engineering Services
The Commissioners have authorized the Borough of Haddonfield to sign an agreement with Remington & Vernick Engineers for their engineering services.

 

Haddonfield Lions Club Mobile Eye Clinic
The Haddonfield Lions Club will host a Mobile Eye Clinic with FREE eye screenings on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at its mobile vision unit, the Sightmobile, which will be parked near the Baptist Church on King’s Highway. The Sightmobile is staffed with licensed, professional vision care specialists who will test for visual acuity, both distance and near; perform an internal and external examination to determine eye health; measure the refractive status for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism; and measure intraocular pressure to determine the presence of glaucoma. Following the test, the doctor will discuss the findings and make any necessary recommendations for further evaluation. Antiques Appraisal
Haddonfield Antique Center will conduct Antiques Appraisals at their shop at 9 Kings Highway East on Friday, October 5, 2013. Bring your antiques to have them appraised.

Authorization to Release Performance Bond
The Commissioners have authorized the borough to release a performance bond to Asphalt Paving Systems, Inc. for their work on the Centennial Field Seating project.

Civic Association Town Meeting
The Civic Association will be hosting the Annual Town Meeting on Thursday, October 24 at 7 p.m. in the Borough Hall Auditorium,   Department Heads, as well as Chairpersons from various boards, Commissions and Committee will be on hand to answer questions from the residents.

Hydrant Flushing
During the month of October 2013 the Haddonfield Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays. The following is the flushing schedule:

October 1-4 – The area South of Kings Highway West of the Patco High Speedline
October 8-11 – The Area North of Kings Highway West of the Patco High Speedline
October 15-18 – The Area North of Kings Highway East of the Patco High Speedline
October 22-25 – The Area South of Kings Highway East of the Patco High Speedline

If you notice your water is discolored leave a cold-water spigot running until it’s clear.  Avoid doing laundry until you’re sure the water is clear. For more information, contact the Haddonfield Water Department Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 3:30 pm. – 856-429-0183

Mayor Jeff Kasko will be available for questions and comments every other Wednesday afternoon from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. in Borough Hall. He will also be available in the evenings by appointment. Haddonfield’s Rules for Dog Walking
The Commissioners want to remind residents of the rules regarding walking your dogs and disposing property of their waste:

  • All dogs must be on a leash when being walked on public streets; no pet is permitted to roam un-leashed in Haddonfield
  • Pet owners or anyone who takes their pet for walks must properly dispose of their pet’s waste by picking it up, wrapping it and either placing it in the trash or flushing it unwrapped down the toilet.

Residents are reminded to sign up to receive important e-mail notices, reminders and alerts from the Borough.  This system can be used to alert those who are registered to impending deadlines (for the payment of taxes, pet license fee, etc.), and to public safety situations.
